Light Therapy
Photobiomodulation or Light Therapy
What is it and how does it work?
Light therapy has had a number of applications down through the years including use of light for jaundiced babies, seasonal affected disorders, skin or dermatological issues and now is being used to help those with Parkinson’s Disease.
How does light therapy actually work?
Light therapy delivers therapeutic light waves into the body at the cellular level. At the correct frequency, duration and intensity, light has been shown to increase cell energy, reduce pain and reduce inflammation. The correct use of light can help to reset a person’s entire nervous system.
By treating the gut with laser, the light can influence a person’s microbiome to reduce inflammation, prevent bacterial leakage and even stimulate dopamine production in both the peripheral and central nervous systems, thus leading to reduced symptoms.
Some benefits being reported by those with PD using the gut protocol include:
- Improved sleep an
- Reduced digestive issues as the most common benefits –
- Reduced constipation
- Increase in energy
- Improved smell
- Improve fine motor control
- Improved mood and increase motivation
